Other Voices
April 7, 2020

As I write, I've been cloistered, so to speak, for almost two weeks while the coronavirus roars across the continent. Trips are cancelled. The expiration date on my driver's license has been extended 90 days to spare me a life-threatening trip to the DMV. At home in California, I've learned what it is to have a son ill with a killer virus--alone in his apartment--on the other side of the continent at a time when flying there to help him would be foolhardy.

With ample time on my hands and plenty that I need to do around the house, I nevertheless find it difficult to turn off the TV and disconnect from the chaos of the overburdened: doctors, nurses, med techs, police officers, firemen, transportation workers, grocery clerks and, rarely mentioned but often seen in the background as we hear from the medical people, the unsung maintenance and cleaning staff who risk their lives as well.

... So, encouraged by a friend who offered an account of one of her favorite trips for posting on Mainly Marj, I decided to create this "Other Voices" page. If you're a traveler with stories to share, I hope you'll get in touch using the Contact box below. Meanwhile, click here to read a lively account by veteran traveler Diane Altona who takes us on a trip to Turkey.
